Shepard Fairey created this inspring Barack Obama poster in 2008 for the presidential election. To begin, his message was for the United States. Apparently, he wanted people to vote for Barack Obama, because he displayed hope for the U.S. Moreover, he photocopied his artwork onto paper t-shirts, stickers and other things. He put it up everywhere from billboards to stop signs. To sum it all up, Shepard Fairey created this artwork fo various reasons and was able to get it up everywhere.

Nostalgia

I am nostalgic towards cds and music because that are very special to me. To begin, I was raised listening to music but we had cds. They kept me entertained as a kid and that is part of the reason I love music today. Moreover, music has always been important in my life. It always calms me down or makes me energetic. To close, music and cds have always been nostalgic to me.

Kenneth Price

Kenneth Price is a postmodern artist in his own way. He combined two of his paintings and sculptures to make one new painting called "High Minded". He used the strategy "layering" with his own artworks by placing his old sculpture on top of a mountain in his painting. Moreover, he took a position on what he thinks being "high minded" is. To close, Ken Price is a postmodern artist who uses his own artworks to create more art in his own style.

The artist that made this ceramic sculpture is named Kenneth Price. To begin, he was born in Los Angeles, California in 1935.  He is a very interesting artist with a certain view on art. Moreover, I chose this artist because he uses his own imagination in his artwork. I can connect with this because I also use my imagination in my artwork. Lastly, I chose this artist also because he makes abstract art out of ceramics and clay. I believe that this is a very hard task to do, but he does it very well. To close, Kenneth Price is a great artist with a great view for art as a whole.

This artwork displays a stereotype of black women and how they are working maids or cooks in the kitchen and I chose this artwork because this is a stereotype that affects my background as an African-American. Initially, black women have always been stereotyped as black slaves or maids. In the picture, the black woman has on a long dress with oven mitts, which shows that she is a maid. Black women portrayed as maids only and not successful is very offensive to my culture. In the picture, she is shown as a worker and I can believe that black women find this especially offensive because this shows that they are nothing more than maids. To sum it all up, this picture is very stereotypical and offensive for various reasons.

                  Mark Tansey-Modern/Postmodern http://www.hawaii.edu/lruby/hon491/honors.htm

This artwork represents modern art on the left side and postmodern art on the right side, along with hybridity and gazing postmodern strategies. The painting means that modern art was a breakthrough that nobody expected and it shows the person getting kicked in the face. On the other hand, postmodern art was an expected development that was made and it shows the person preparing himself for the breakthrough. This painting shows hybridity with the combination of two artworks with meanings that correspond to each other. It also uses the gazing postmodern strategy because every artist that looks at this picture could feel a certain way about the subjects and look at the objects and construct their own opinions. This painting uses two different subjects and turns it into one area of art using two postmodern strategies.

Blog #8

My first quarter in art was interesting. One of our first projects was the exquisite corpse and I enjoyed doing it. Another one was an accordion book. Although it was difficult at first, it became fun and interesting. The sketchbook was a great way for me to stay sharp with my art skills and knowledge. The blogs were about certain subjects based on the week. I have learned that in art you have to apply yourself and put your mind to work. The subject of art has become more interesting to me because of my experience so far.
