The artist that made this ceramic sculpture is named Kenneth Price. To begin, he was born in Los Angeles, California in 1935. He is a very interesting artist with a certain view on art. Moreover, I chose this artist because he uses his own imagination in his artwork. I can connect with this because I also use my imagination in my artwork. Lastly, I chose this artist also because he makes abstract art out of ceramics and clay. I believe that this is a very hard task to do, but he does it very well. To close, Kenneth Price is a great artist with a great view for art as a whole.

This artwork displays a stereotype of black women and how they are working maids or cooks in the kitchen and I chose this artwork because this is a stereotype that affects my background as an African-American. Initially, black women have always been stereotyped as black slaves or maids. In the picture, the black woman has on a long dress with oven mitts, which shows that she is a maid. Black women portrayed as maids only and not successful is very offensive to my culture. In the picture, she is shown as a worker and I can believe that black women find this especially offensive because this shows that they are nothing more than maids. To sum it all up, this picture is very stereotypical and offensive for various reasons.

Mark Tansey-Modern/Postmodern http://www.hawaii.edu/lruby/hon491/honors.htm
This artwork represents modern art on the left side and postmodern art on the right side, along with hybridity and gazing postmodern strategies. The painting means that modern art was a breakthrough that nobody expected and it shows the person getting kicked in the face. On the other hand, postmodern art was an expected development that was made and it shows the person preparing himself for the breakthrough. This painting shows hybridity with the combination of two artworks with meanings that correspond to each other. It also uses the gazing postmodern strategy because every artist that looks at this picture could feel a certain way about the subjects and look at the objects and construct their own opinions. This painting uses two different subjects and turns it into one area of art using two postmodern strategies.

Blog #8
My first quarter in art was interesting. One of our first projects was the exquisite corpse and I enjoyed doing it. Another one was an accordion book. Although it was difficult at first, it became fun and interesting. The sketchbook was a great way for me to stay sharp with my art skills and knowledge. The blogs were about certain subjects based on the week. I have learned that in art you have to apply yourself and put your mind to work. The subject of art has become more interesting to me because of my experience so far.

While making my accordion book, I learned that it requires a lot of time and dedication. I also learned that it is fairly easy to incorporate elements and principals in an accordion book. I enjoyed putting my own style of art with other forms of art. It was challenging trying to make the bok look nice while trying to make sure it represents the building blocks of art. If I ever make another accordion book, I would concentrate more on it and dedicate more time to it. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience.

I found this handmade book interesting because it has the form of a watermelon at a picnic. It takes the form of fruit, which may portray the feelings of the creator of the book about watermelons. I also found it interesting because it uses the shape of a fork as a lock on the book. This is well-crafted because it has seeds on the cover of it with a green background, which gives the image of it being a watermelon. It also has great detail such as the flaws that may appear on a watermelon. The artist took time out to create the background details, as well as the entire cover itself.

Abstract Art
I see a water flow or air flow mixed with the earth. I think it is supposed to represent the way water and earth go hand and hand with each other and how they interact with each other. It could also mean the atmosphere is covering the Earth. This painting could represent many things depending on the view of the observer. The artist tried to combine elements of color and texture.

The artist, Cope 2, has created this graffiti work of art. He attempts to using the element of art color. He uses a variety of different shades of the same color, which brings the artwork full circle. He also uses the element of art style. He provides his own flair to graffiti by adding his name, which is basically the artwork itself. Cope 2 uses emphasis in the way that he combines certain colors to make a completely different artwork. Also, he uses the principle variety. He combined different shapes and colors to make it look a certain way and conform to his name, Cope 2.

Shepard Fairey, Andre the Giant Has a Posse, 1989,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre_the_Giant_Has_a_Posse
This artwork was created as a joke and used by skaters and graffiti artists all over the world. It was altered to become other paintings, such as OBEY Giant. It lists former pro wrestler Andre the Giant as 7'4" and 520 lbs, although he was 7' and 400 lbs. It was joke directed towards skater culture and rap artists. The painting is basically saying fear him because he has a posse behind him.
The subject of this painting is Andre the Giant and his posse. It wants people to be afraid of him or look at it as a joke, which was the initial intention.
Some questions I would ask are:
What made you pick Andre the Giant?
What inspired this work of art?
Who is his posse?
Why did you direct it towards rap artists and skaters?
Race and Gender Criticism
While reading "Race and Gender Criticism", I learned about the oppression and discrimination against women and people of color. I believe that everyone should be judged by their artwork and not by their ethnicity and background. According to this article, only one person of color was able to showcase their work and no black men were able to at all. I believe this should not happen because we have come too far to take a couple steps back. Everyone should be treated with equality. How do you feel about this?

My Very First Art Experience
My very first art experience that I can remember was in 3rd grade in Art class. We had began to make our own sketchbooks. We folded, colored, and decorated them to our liking. The teacher allowed us to draw and sketch what we wanted to an extent. She loved our creative minds at a young age. This was the first time I began to actually like art. She opened my eyes to something I had never seen before.
